Situated at the Northern end of Lake Windemere, Ambleside lake frontage is called Waterhead, steamers from Bowness on Windermere and Lakeside land here, rowing boats can be hired by the hour for a relaxing trip around the craggy outcrops of the river Brathay which runs from Elterwater into Windermere, ideal for canoeing.
The town centre offers all types of shops as do most towns in Cumbria, outdoor sports, mountain biking, clothing and plenty of food outlets, restaurants are dotted all around and car parking is fairly accessible as theres plenty of room in the council maintained car parks.
Ambleside is a perfect base to explore the whole area of the Lake District, its central location allows for easy access to Coniston, Grasmere, Keswick Windermere and Bowness, theres many walks with excellent scenery, water falls, fells and mountains which overlook the town.
